Art and Owls: An Afternoon with Cleveland Metroparks

Thursday, September 21st, UST Cleveland had the opportunity to hold an Art and Owls event in partnership with Cleveland Metroparks Art Programming Board

We had the pleasure of meeting Ciara Olive, who said that as a naturalist, she loves getting to host events of this kind for children and families in the area. From summer youth camps to wildflower walks to coordinating with non-profits like us, Ciara gets to bring her passion for the outdoors all over. She brings animals from the Cleveland Metroparks, arts and crafts activities to experience hands-on fun, and a ton of valuable information to be able to educate people of all ages about the impressive world around us.

On Thursday, Ciara joined us with Luna, a beautiful Eastern Screech Owl, who happens to be blind in her right eye. She shared with our clients about Luna’s favorite foods, her sleep schedule, and the story of how she came to Cleveland Metroparks. Ciara even passed around a real owl pellet and let the kids try to find any mouse bones in there!

Ciara also walked our clients through an art activity with real owl feathers! She helped the children build a small display on special paper with feathers, leaves, and other materials, to create their very own sun printing to take home with them. Our clients had a blast at this event, meeting Luna, making art, and spending time with their community. We are so grateful to Cleveland Metroparks and Ciara for bringing the feathers and fun to our front door and can’t wait to host them again soon!
