US Together Meets with Center for a New American Security and European Diplomats

On December 16, 2020, US Together participated in a virtual roundtable conversation: “The Future of U.S. Foreign Policy: The View from Ohio”, organized by the Center for a New American Security. Our team was pleased to join a facilitated discussion with Ohio community leaders, representatives from European embassies and U.S. national security experts.

Apart from US Together, the meeting was joined by representatives of The City Club of Cleveland, Cleveland Council on World Affairs, and Kent State University. European participants represented the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, and the embassies of Finland and Great Britain in Washington, DC. Participants had the opportunity to share their perspectives on the future of U.S. foreign policy and transatlantic relations, and the view from Ohio on U.S. global engagement and alliances. Despite the limited time, we managed to exchange views on issues such as climate change, disinformation, and cyber security. Our diverse discussion group agreed on the increasing importance of international cooperation and partnerships.

Background:

The Center for a New American Security, in cooperation with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, launched a program called “Across the Pond, in the Field”. The project sends two Americans and two Europeans to twelve cities across the United States. The project aims to hold discussions and debates on foreign policy with audiences in small-to-medium sized cities across America. Discussions with business leaders, local politicians, students, and veterans foster a genuine exchange of ideas: that allows local audiences to ask hard questions and challenge longstanding, core foreign policy assumptions.

We thank the Center for a New American Security for this opportunity to join an important conversation.
