Announcing the Hujra Afghan Restaurant Pop-up at NoHi in Akron on August 27 to August 29!
US Together is delighted to announce a pop-up by Hujra Afghan Restaurant, one of the businesses in our Microenterprise Development (MED) Program at the end of this month.
From August 27th to 29th, Hujra Afghan Restaurant will be serving up traditional Afghani foods at NoHi, a food business incubator, located at 778 N Main St in Akron, Ohio. You can stop in and taste their delicious food on Friday, August 27 and Saturday, August 28 anytime from 12pm to 8pm and on Sunday, August 29 anytime from 12pm to 6pm.
Hujra Afghan Restaurant is owned and operated by an immigrant from Afghanistan. The owner and his wife have been delighting family and friends with their traditional Afghani food for years. Previously, they have cooked for various holidays and large community events. Their goal is to open a restaurant serving their traditional Afghani foods for not only the large local Afghani community here but also other community members in their new home here in Northeastern Ohio.
Entrees that will be offered at the NoHi pop-up will include both vegetable and meat-based dishes. Some of their specialties include kabuli pulao, chicken and beef seekh kabobs, and bhindi aloo sabzi. Kabuli pulao is a lamb dish with steamed rice flavored with raisins, carrots, cloves, and masala seasoning. Their delicious seekh kabobs consist of grilled chicken or beef, which is marinated for several hours before grilling. For the non-meat eaters, there is bhindi aloo sabzi, a vegetable-based dish featuring fried okra and potatoes. Most entrees are served with sauces, salad, and a side of naan or fried rice. You’ll be able to try saffron green tea at the pop-up as well. Be sure to also save room for dessert as they will offer firni, a sweet rice pudding.
