Mahnur is a medical student serving as a Summer Associate at US Together - Toledo!

This summer, two AmeriCorps Summer Associates are serving at US Together on Food and Health programming. A couple of weeks ago we introduced you to our Food Summer Associate, Ben, and today we would like to introduce you to our AmeriCorps Summer Health Associate, Mahnur. Mahnur is currently a medical student at Ohio University and is spending her summer helping with health education programming for our clients, including information about COVID-19 vaccines, and also programming to improve healthcare access for our clients.

Mahnur was born in Pakistan but has lived most of her life in Perrysburg, OH. Mahnur notes that as an immigrant herself she is passionate about refugee and immigrant health and feels that she intimately understands the importance and need for health education and health literacy in this community. Health literacy not only expands access to quality healthcare but also empowers individuals and communities with knowledge about their health.  Mahnur and her family have personally experienced how daunting it is as a non-citizen in the US to access healthcare and these experiences have provided her key insight and empathy for this position. Following her time with US Together, Mahnur will be starting her second year of medical school in the fall.

We are so grateful to have Mahnur on the team. Welcome Mahnur!
