Family Strengthening

Committed to school success, the Family Strengthening program assists refugees with their education needs. Program staff assist with school and child care enrollment and connect families with resources and services that promote family wellness. Parents participating in the program receive additional support and guidance for understanding and navigating the American school system. The goal of the program is to encourage parents to become more involved with local schools and to focus on addressing two significant family-based educational barriers for refugees: communication with schools and role reversal between parents and children. Many times, children end up interpreting for their parents rather than spending time enjoying their childhood. This program promotes active parental involvement in their children’s lives.
